How Long Does Bridal Hair and Makeup Take?

Your beauty schedule is planned backwards from the time you need to be ready, not simply from the ceremony time. Here is how the timing usually works.

Working Backwards

How YourWedding Morning Timeline Is Calculated

Rather than starting from the ceremony time, I plan from your required ready time and work backwards. That ready time needs to leave room for getting dressed, your veil and jewellery, bridal portraits, photos with the bridal party, travel to the ceremony and a sensible buffer for the unexpected. The ceremony time alone isn't enough to build a schedule around, so I always ask for the time you actually need to be ready.

Within that window, hair and makeup are usually sequenced so that hair is finished first when extensions or an intricate style are involved, since makeup can be completed last without disturbing the hairstyle. For a bride with a larger bridal party, or a shorter morning than the number of services allows, a second artist may be recommended so everyone is ready on time without rushing any one look.

To put a personalised schedule together, I ask each bride for a handful of practical details before the day.

  • Wedding date and getting-ready address
  • Your required ready time
  • Number of makeup services needed
  • Number of hairstyling services needed
  • Who requires both hair and makeup
  • Whether extensions or hair accessories will be worn
  • Parking and building access details

ExampleTimelines

Example One

Bride only, hair and makeup

Allow approximately 2 to 2.5 hours for the services, then work backwards from your required ready time to set the start time, adding a buffer before dressing, portraits and travel to the ceremony.

Example Two

Bride with a bridal party

The start time depends on how many people need hair, makeup or both, and in what order. A tighter morning or a larger bridal party is usually where a second artist is quoted separately, so the schedule still finishes on time.

These are general examples. Your own timeline is prepared individually once your booking details are confirmed.

Before I Arrive

Preparing forthe Morning

  • Clean, moisturised skin with no makeup
  • Clean and completely dry hair
  • Extensions, veil and accessories ready
  • Each person available at their allocated time
  • A clear, well lit working space
  • Parking and building access confirmed

None of this needs to be complicated. Clear organisation on the morning simply means everyone knows their allocated time and the space is ready to work in. That structure is what allows you to enjoy the morning with the people around you, rather than watching the clock.

A bridal trial can also help refine the final look and estimate the preparation needed for your chosen hairstyle and makeup. You can also view recent bridal hair and makeup looks in the portfolio.
